WIVB/WNLO will expand its weekday morning newscast to 4:30 a.m., starting June 15th.

WIVB-TV 4 / Buffalo (“WIVB 4”)
WNLO 23 / Buffalo (“CW 23”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: There hasn’t been much changes in the Buffalo TV market, newscasts-wise, since 2013. On June 15th, 2015, that finally all changes.

Starting Monday June 15th, 2015, WIVB 4 will be expanding its weekday morning newscast, News 4’s Wake-Up, to 4:30 a.m. The newscast will be the second one in the market to air at 4:30 a.m., the first being WGRZ 2’s Channel 2 News Daybreak, which first expanded to 4:30 a.m., a few years ago back in August of 2012 (this is other than the local 24-hour cable news channel, Time Warner Cable News Buffalo). Jordan Williams, Teresa Weakley, 4WARN Weather with AMS/Sealed and NWA/Memebered Meteorologist and long-time WIVB veteran, Mike Cejka and News 4 Traffic with Lauren Hall, are all expected to be a part of the new half-hour broadcast at 4:30 a.m.

I also put a picture of WNLO 23 here because the new half-hour 4:30 a.m. newscast will be simulcast on WIVB 4’s sister station, WNLO 23 as well. This will create a 4:30-9:00 a.m. block for the newscast, with the 7:00-9:00 a.m. block being exclusive on WNLO 23.

So if you’re looking for more morning news in Buffalo, then you got it with WIVB 4 and WNLO 23. Enjoy.

  1. I don’t know if the Buffalo TV Market will ever have local news at 4:00pm. Some years ago WKBW-TV had a newscast at 4:00pm called Buffalo Afternoon, PM Buffalo, or Good Afternoon Buffalo something to that effect and it was cancelled. I don’t know if WKBW will get into the 4:30am news race. I think WKBW is rated last place for newz so its iffy if they will get a 4:30am newscast. 4:00pm news in Buffalo could still be up in the air. If the Buffalo TV Market were to get a 4:00pm newscast again it could be WIVB-TV that could get the newscast since it is a Media General owned station and there are several Media General stations have 4:00pm newscasts like WFLA-TV in Tampa in your state of Florida, KRQE-TV 13 in Albuquerque in my state of New Mexico, KIMT-TV in Rochester, MN, KWQC-TV in Davenport, WAVY-TV in Norfolk, VA, KOIN 6 in Portland, OR, and WTEN in Albany, NY which expanded to 4:30pm as reported on this blog.

  2. Almost none of the markets in NY state other the Albany and NYC have a 4pm, there’s not enough interest. Better to have a 7pm in my opinion.

PM Buffalo was never a newscast more of a talk show hybrid.

WKBW will expand to 4:30am only if the ratings get better.
