Lifestyle is replacing news on KLAS at 4:00 p.m. starting right after the Super Bowl.

It looks like there’ll soon be just one local newscast at 4:00pm in the market once KLAS goes Lifestyle next month.

Starting Monday February 6th (the day after Super Bowl LI between New England and Atlanta), KLAS 8 will debut an hour-long weekday lifestyle/talk program called Las Vegas NOW, replacing the hour-long 8 News NOW at 4:00. It will be a show covering entertainment, pop-culture, fashion, food and fitness along with local event and special feature coverage. There will be some local news and weather updates but it won’t be a entire traditional newscast.

They’ll have Stacey Gualandi, Mercedes Martinez, Lindsey Simon and ex-KVBC 3 (now KSNV 3 – NBC)-er Kendall Tenney as hosts of the hour-long program. By getting rid of the 4:00pm newscast, KVVU 5 (FOX) will be home to the area’s ONLY hour-long news at that time with FOX 5 News at 4:00.

KLAS 8’s Vice President and General Manager, Lisa Howfield:

“Following Nexstar’s significant investment to completely upgrade all aspects of KLAS-TV’s television and news operations, we are once again raising our commitment to local viewers and advertisers with the upcoming launch of Las Vegas NOW, our new lifestyle and entertainment show. Our News Director, Terri Foley, has brought together award-winning anchors and reporters to host Las Vegas NOW and our Executive Producer, Celina Tuason, has leveraged her wealth of editorial and production leadership experience to establish strategy and vision for the program. Our teams are working hard on what promises to be an entertaining, fun and informative experience for our local viewers.”

So one station’s newscast loss (KLAS 8) is another station’s newscast gain (KVVU 5). We’ll see if viewers would want to watch something different, besides local news now.

  1. “RUMORS ONLY: Could KLAS drop its 4:00 p.m. newscast in favor of a lifestyle/talk show?” The rumor came true they really are doing it. Now with KLAS not having a 4:00pm newscast I wonder if KSNV or KTNV will move its 3:00pm newscasts to 4:00pm to compete with KVVU 4:00pm newscast? I think either KSNV NBC 3 or KTNV shoud move their 3:00pm newscasts to 4:00pm. I don’t understand why there are 2 stations with 3:00pm news in the Begas TV Market. Two TV stations with 3:00pm in LA KTLA, and KABC may work in LA but maybe not so much in Las Vegas.

  2. With Nexstar-Media General merger completed as of last month, I do wonder the future of the ‘Daytime’ show, that originated on WFLA, and (I assume) airs on a few legacy MG stations (predating Young Broadcasting and LIN Media mergers), and whether Nexstar could be looking to end that show.

  3. Daytime may still stay on WFLA after the NEXSTAR Media General merger because there are several now Nexstar stations that have local lifestyle shows on them such as CI Living on WCIA in Champaing/Springfield, IL, The Rhode Show on WPRI in Providence, Living Dayton on WDTN in Dayton, Indy Style on WISH in Indianapolis, and New Mexico Living on KRQE 13.2 in my city of Albuquerque.
