KNXV will debut a newscast for KASW in the form of “Mornings.”

KASW 61 / Phoenix (“CW 61 Arizona”)

It’s only been half a year since Scripps’ acquisition of KASW making it a sister station of KNXV. Now, its ready to debut local news from KNXV to start using its sister station towards its advantage.

Starting Monday, March 30th, KNXV will be adding a two-hour extension of its weekday morning newscast, ABC 15 News Mornings. Currently, on from 4:30-7:00 a.m. on KNXV, it will also broadcast an extra two hours from 7:00-9:00 a.m. on KASW.

The newscast will be anchored by Justin Pazera, who is being promoted from anchoring on weekend evenings and Allison Rodriguez, a familiar face to KNXV viewers as she comes back to the station after only spending months away in California at KTVU 2 (FOX) in Oakland but spent seven years prior to that from 2013-2019 at KNXV so its a welcome reunion for her.

The newscast will effectively compete against the long-established 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. hours of KTVK 3 (Ind) and KSAZ 10 (FOX)’s weekday morning newscasts (3TV News – Good Morning Arizona and FOX 10 News – Arizona Morning, respectively) but both stations will continue to air news at 9:00 a.m. as KNXV’s news on KASW ends theirs for syndicated programming.

This is the first local newscast announced for KASW as produced by their new sister station, KNXV. No word as to if KNXV will do more, including a possible 9:00 p.m. newscast that would also compete against KTVK and KSAZ. As soon as we get word on that, this blog will be on it and give you more details when it becomes available.

For now, its a good first step for KNXV to take. A small step but a good one to take to build on expansion in the near future.
