FIRST ON THE BLOG: There have been some new newscasts in Central Alabama, as well as a recent move on WVTM.
First off, WVTM 13 has recently launched a half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30 p.m. to replace their sports/talk show, Alabama TONIGHT. The new newscast, known as WVTM 13 News at 6:30, is the ONLY local newscast on at that time and creates the area’s first hour-long 6:00 p.m. weeknight newscast.
Up next, WVTM 13 also moved the hour-long 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning newscast to 9:00 a.m. and is also the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market and it creates a 2-hour block between 8:00-10:00 a.m. after the Sunday Today Show and it moves Meet The Press to 10:00 a.m. All morning newscasts have dropped the Today in Alabama name, thanks to Hearst ownership and are just referred to WVTM 13 News.
Finally, WIAT 42 has added a weekend morning newscast for the very first time. Wake Up Alabama, the same name as the weekday morning newscast, is now on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00-7:00 a.m. This new newscast competes against the 5:00 a.m. hour on WVTM 13 on both weekend days and the 6:00 a.m. hour on WBRC 6 (the #1 market leader) on both weekend days, as well as the 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning hour on WVTM 13.
So there you go Central Alabama, more local news in more times. Enjoy!
I am surprised WFCT 33/40 or WABM-TV 58 with ever TV station it is the ABC affiliate in Birmingham does not have Saturday or Sunday Morning News. Of course that station is owned by Sinclair

Remember, WIAT 42 is in transition, thanks to new Media General ownership. Give it some time.

WBRC is number one at noon by a wide margin, that’s why the other stations start at 11am or 11:30. WIAT is smart not to jump in.
