KARE is adding more local news at 6:30 p.m., starting September 14th.

KARE 11 / Minneapolis – St. Paul (“KARE 11”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: KARE KARES about its viewers (see what we did there?) and to show how much they KARE, they will add another local newscast and it will be before NBC Primetime.

Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, KARE 11 will be adding a half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30 p.m. with KARE 11 News at 6:30. In other words, the 6:00 p.m. newscast will be expanded to an hour with two separate newscast during the hour. The newscast will replace Entertainment TONIGHT, which moves to 4:30 p.m., which replaces Jeopardy! which will air a repeat at 3:00, followed by a new one at 3:30 p.m.

Long-time KARE 11 veterans Julie Nelson and Randy Shaver (formerly the sports director) are expected to anchor the new 6:30 p.m. newscast, with KARE 11 WeatherNOW from AMS/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Belinda Jensen and Sports Director Eric Perkins. This will effectively compete against KSTP 5 (ABC)’s 5 Eyewitness News at 6:30 for local news in that timeslot.

Want more local news in the Twin Cities? You got it. Now its KARE 11 vs. KSTP 5. Let’s see who wins this battle. And again, KARE KARES about their viewers.

  1. They should have expanded their 4:00pm newscast to an hour instead. The MSP TV Market does not have any hour long 4:00pm newscasts since KARE-TV 4:00pm newscast is only 30 minutes and KSTP starts their news at 4:30pm.
