WDAY/WDAZ will soon introduce North Dakota’s first-ever afternoon newscast.

WDAY-TV 6 / Fargo, N.D. – Moorhead, Minn. (“WDAY 6 Television”)
WDAZ-TV 8 / Devils Lake – Grand Forks, N.D. (“WDAZ 8 Television”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: For those living in Eastern North Dakota, get ready for some afternoon news in less than two weeks time.

Starting Monday, September 11th, WDAY 6 in Fargo and WDAZ 8 in Grand Forks will simulcast together a brand new half-hour weekday newscast at 4:00 p.m., a historic first for any market in North Dakota. The newscast will be based out of Fargo and just like the other simulcasts, the newscast will be called Y-Z News at 4:00 (named after each station’s last callsign letter).

It is a historic first since it’ll be the ONLY station airing local news at that timeslot in the market. The new newscast at 4:00 replaces the double-run of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and while the new newscast is a half-hour only, it will put Inside Edition at 4:30 p.m., which will lead to the news at 5:00 p.m.

Unlike the other newscasts that air on WDAY 6/WDAZ 8, this will initially not be aired on its western N.D. sister stations, also affiliated with ABC: KBMY 17 in Bismarck and KMCY 14 in Minot. It will air two episodes of Judge Judy instead in that 4:00 p.m. timeslot.

So another expansion taking place on 9/11 with a historic first for North Dakota. Expect more additions and expansions for September to be announced soon so stay tuned to the blog for more.
