KYOU is adding another new newscast, thanks to its NBC affiliation.

KYOU-TV 15 / Ottumwa, Iowa – Kirksville, Mo. (“KYOU FOX 15”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: KYOU added its first local newscast in 2015. Since then, it has given area viewers a primetime option for local news. Now, they’re about to have more but on another KYOU channel.

Starting Monday, July 16th, KYOU 15 will be adding a half-hour weeknight 10:00 p.m. newscast on its second digital subchannel, KYOU NBC 15KYOU News at 10:00 will be anchored by Leah Kemple and Chase Scheuer; the latter of which also anchors the weeknight half-hour 9:00 p.m. newscast on KYOU FOX 15.

KYOU’s news director, Pat Brink:

“In January, we started carrying NBC — and NBC has ordered a local newscast. They bring viewers to us, we bring viewers to them.”

He wants to make sure viewers tune in for local news and even without cable or satellite and that viewers tune in for local news that’s important to them.

This new half-hour will compete against KTVO 3 (ABC/CBS)’s long-established half-hour 10:00 p.m. newscast, in which it will be the first time KYOU competes against KTVO in the same timeslot in the local news market. For now though, no expansion to mornings, middays or evenings yet, but that could change if everything goes well.

For now, another new newscast comes to KYOU and the first for the NBC subchannel. Let’s see how viewers tune in for that.
