FIRST ON THE BLOG: It looks like one station in Tulsa has decided to expand in a place where its currently unavailable in the market.
Starting today, KJRH 2 will expand its half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:00 p.m. to a full hour. 2 News Works For You at 6:00 is now on from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and is the ONLY station in Tulsa to do so as everyone else is on at 6:00 for just a half-hour. The newscast is anchored by Karen Larsen and Brian Sanders with 2 Works For You Weather from Chief Meteorologist Mike Collier.
It seems like KJRH has moved The List from the 6:30 p.m. timeslot and has been moved to 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the new extension to an hour allows NBC primetime to sandwich in between both of KJRH newscasts that bookend each other, the hour-long 6:00 p.m. news and the half-hour news at 10:00 p.m. that comes on after primetime.
Other than this, there were no other changes made in the Tulsa market so now that local news at 6:30 p.m. on weeknights is available in Tulsa, it sounds pretty good, but it depends on if viewers will tune in.
KJRH had better not go all news. They have to be very careful.

“KJRH had better not go all news. They have to be very careful”.
Why because they might beat KOTV, KTUL or KOKI news if they do?
I don’t think KRJH will go all news. You already have all news in Tulsa on KOTV channel 6.2, Channel 6.2 or Cable channel 53 is a 24-hour all day news channel with KOTV newscast repeats running throughout the day. KWTV 9.2 in and also cable channel 53 in OKC is also a 24-hour all day news like KOTV. KWTV I think is owned by the same company that owns KOTV.

And yes, KOTV’s 24-hour news channel is otherwise known as “News on 6 NOW.”
KOTV/KQCW and KWTV/KSBI are owned by Griffin Communications.

I think if anything I predict KOTV will get a 4:00 pm newscast to compete with KTUL 4:00 pm news and it may even be an hour long 4:00 pm newscast KTUL 4:00 pm newscast is only a 30 minute newscast. KOTV sister station in OKC already has an hour long 4:00 pm newscast. So it may not be far fetched to see KOTV get 4:00 pm news.
