Small minor newscast changes… #239.

KVVU-TV 5 / Henderson – Las Vegas (“FOX 5”)
KJRH-TV 2 / Tulsa (“2 Works For You”)
KOTV 6 / Tulsa (“KOTV 6”)
KQCW 19 / Muskogee – Tulsa (“Tulsa CW”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Some small changes to report from various stations in two different markets.

First up in Vegas, KVVU 5 has expanded its Saturday morning newscast to include an extra hour at 6:00 a.m. FOX 5 News This Morning on Saturdays now run from 6:00-9:00 a.m. and competes against KSNV 3 (NBC) and KTNV 13 (ABC) for local news at that timeslot in the market. On Sundays, its still two hours from 6:00-8:00 a.m. and no word if it will add a third hour at 8:00 a.m. there too as, for the time being, its airing FOX News Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and its because its the NFL season.

Next is Tulsa and there’s plenty. KJRH is, once again, airing a 30-minute newscast at 6:00 p.m. It was just months ago when the station expanded its newscast to an hour-long, including the ONLY 6:30 p.m. news in the market. Now that’s gone again as the station now airs The List at 6:30 p.m.

Also in Tulsa, KOTV 6 has decided to expand its weekend newscast at 9:00 p.m. that it produces for its sister station KQCW 19 to a full hour. The News on 6 at 9:00 on Tulsa CW now airs for a full hour, seven nights a week and competes in full against KOKI 23 (FOX)’s established primetime 9:00 p.m. newscast. This is especially a good move, considering that on Saturdays due to FOX Sports programming, KOKI’s 9:00 p.m. news has been delayed to 10:00 or even to 11:00 p.m. at times.

That’s all the small changes for now and lots to unpack from. We’ll have more as soon as get more word from tipsters and other sources of information from our loyal and faithful readers.

  1. “They would be better off online in the future” . You must be living in another world. Earth to Peter. We already have online weather. You can get video forecasts of meteorologists reporting weather.
