FIRST ON THE BLOG: When you read the title, you think how is this possible? The answer is a simulcast. It can be done, now that WPTZ 5 will have 3 digital subchannels, instead of 2.
Weeks ago, the station announced that WPTZ 5.2, which for a while was split in programming between The CW and Me-TV will be split into 2 different channels, The Valley CW on WPTZ 5.2 and The Valley’s Me-TV on WPTZ 5.3. Today, new details were announced about the new channels and now the plans include… a new local newscast.
Starting September 29th, WPTZ 5 will add a 10:00 p.m. newscast over on WPTZ 5.2 and 5.3. WPTZ NewsChannel 5 at 10:00 will more likely be a half-hour broadcast but unsure if it will be weeknights only or a nightly broadcast. This will be the second option for local news at 10:00 p.m. in the Champlain Valley as WFFF 44 will be the ONLY other option for news at 10:00 p.m. Their broadcast is an hour-long on weeknights, half-hour on weekends.
Now that 5.2 is splitting into two 24-hour entertainment channels, it gives WPTZ 5, even more options and chances to add even more local news in the future.
