WFMZ is ready to broadcast local news at 4:00 p.m., starting October 15th.

WFMZ-TV 69 / Allentown – Philadelphia (“69 WFMZ-TV”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you count WFMZ 69, it’s not only a part of the Philly market, but it also makes it 1 of 6 stations producing local news in the market (KYW 3, WPVI 6, WCAU 10, WTXF 29, all in Philadelphia, WMGM 40 in Atlantic City and WFMZ 69 in Allentown). And now, Philly will have a 3-way race for local news at 4:00 p.m.

Starting October 15th, Jim Vaughn (who anchored the Saturday morning newscast and did weekend sports at 6:00 and 10:00 p.m.) and Melanie Falcon (who anchored the Saturday morning newscast and was also the Sunrise weekday and health beat reporter) will anchor the new 69 News LIVE at 4:00, a brand new 1-hour interactive newscast that will coverage both Lehigh Valley regional and Berks County news, basically WFMZ 69’s concentrated viewing area. The newscast will also feature the latest traffic updates and a check of the 69 News AccuWeather Forecast. This new newscast will become the 3rd Philly market station to air news at 4:00, after WPVI 6’s Channel 6 Action News at 4:00 and the more longer-established WCAU 10’s NBC 10 News at 4:00.

Btw, just in case you’re wondering, this newscast would debut on a Wednesday, instead of a Monday. Either something special is happening on Monday the 13th or Tuesday the 14th on the station or people working there don’t know how to look at calendars very well. Other than that, WFMZ 69 is standing itself as a small little station that could do BIG in the market.
