FIRST ON THE BLOG: KTAL and KMSS are making a big impression on me and showing that they are stepping up to be a force in the Ark-La-Tex market. How? By adding and expanding their newscasts. Here’s the details.
First off, KTAL 6 has added a Saturday half-hour newscast at 5:00 p.m. The newscast is the ONLY ones in the market, as KTBS 3 (ABC) starts at 5:30 p.m. and KSLA 12 (CBS) starts at 6:00 p.m. while also competing against KTAL 6’s 6:00 p.m. Saturday newscast.
The next point, KMSS 33 has expanded the weeknight edition of FOX 33 News – First at 9:00 to a full-hour, which will directly and fully compete against KTBS 3 on KPXJ 21 (CW)’s hour-long KTBS 3 News at 9:00 on KPXJ 21. The weekend newscast remains a half-hour, while KPXJ 21’s newscast is a full-hour, 7 nights a week. The 9:00 p.m. newscast is produced by sister station KTAL 6.
Last but not least, KMSS 33 is adding a morning newscast for the very first time. KMSS 33 will be adding a LIVE hour-long newscast at 7:00 a.m. on Monday August 3rd, 2015, called FOX 33 News – Good Day, in which it will also be produced by KTAL 6. We don’t know as to who will deliver the news or the weather on that morning newscast, but it will be the ONLY local morning newscast on the market during that time, as KTBS 3’s sister station, KPXJ 21 and rival KSLA 12 doesn’t start their later mid-morning newscasts until 9:00 a.m. KPXJ 21 doesn’t air a 7:00-9:00 a.m. morning newscast, instead opting for the 9:00 a.m. hour.
So there you have it folks. KTAL 6 and KMSS 33 adding more news and expanding more news. This is very good news for a usual 3rd-place news operation in the market and this would help alot.
