FIRST ON THE BLOG: KHOU is about to give up a popular game show for another half-hour of local news.
Starting Monday September 14th, 2015, KHOU 11 will be expanding its weekday 4:00 p.m. newscast, KHOU 11 News at 4:00, to an hour. The newscast will now compete in full with KTRK 13 (ABC)’s 13 Eyewitness News at 4:00 and is currently anchored by Len Cannon and Lisa Hernandez with KHOU 11 Weather from AMS & NWA/Sealed Meteorologist Brooks Garner.
But just as this was confirmed to me by KHOU 11 on their Facebook page, it sadly means that the station is losing Jeopardy! with Alex Trebek to KTRK 13. The station is currently airing it at 4:30 p.m., but once the newscast is expanded, it will move to KTRK 13 at 3:00 p.m. KHOU 11 will continue to carry Wheel of Fortune at 6:30 p.m. and will make this market, one of the few (and possibly the largest) in America, to have both shows aired at separate stations, since most markets air both on one station, either together or at separate timeslots.
It’s a weird situation, but that is what’s happening folks. KHOU 11 adding more news, while losing a popular game show to KTRK 13. I don’t know if that will sit well with viewers, but we’ll find out and see.
Isn’t KHOU-TV a CBS O&O Station?

Nope. KHOU 11 is owned by TEGNA Media, Inc.

Never heard that name be TEGNA Media. Is TEGNA a small media company like Hubbard Broadcasting which owns KOB-TV in my city of Albuquerque? I heard of the big ones Raycom, Media General, Sinclair, Gannett, Next Star, Tribune.

I’m really upset that Jeopardy has been cancelled on KHOU Houston. We did not need another half hour of news. I’m changing my news channel.
