KTVU is expanding its noon newscast to a full hour, starting this Thursday.

KTVU 2 / Oakland – San Francisco – San Jose (“KTVU FOX 2”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: One San Francisco station is about to expand at midday, following its successful temporary run at one during Super Bowl Week/Weekend.

Starting this Thursday (how odd though), KTVU 2 is expanding its hour-long 12:00 Noon newscast to a full hour. KTVU FOX 2 News at Noon will soon be aired weekdays from 12:00-1:00pm and even though it competes against KPIX 5 (CBS) in this timeslot, KTVU 2 will be the area’s ONLY hour-long Noon newscast as KGO 7 (ABC; half-hour) and KNTV 11 (NBC; full-hour) air their midday newscast at 11:00am.

The expansion to a full hour kicks out a repeat of TMZ on TV at 12:30pm and will continue to be shown on weeknights at 7:30pm on KICU 36 (Ind) after KTVU 2’s half-hour weeknight 7:00pm newscast on KICU 36 as well as a repeat at 1:30am weekday overnights on KTVU 2.

What will this mean? More midday news for the Bay Area and more coverage from KTVU 2, which what was a once respected news operation.
