Small minor newscast changes… #224.

WXYZ-TV 7 / Detroit (“Channel 7”)
KWKT-TV 44 / Waco – Temple – Killeen (“FOX 44 Central Texas”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Some small changes to report from two different markets.

Just recently, WXYZ 7 has cut its Sunday 11:00 p.m. news down to just a half-hour in order to air the 7 Sports Cave at 11:30 p.m., moving from its previous 11:00 a.m. timeslot. This marks a return for WXYZ as it now airs a sports program in the coveted 11:30 p.m. Sunday timeslot since the discontinuation of the Sunday Sports Update, just four years ago in 2014.

Another change to note is that KWKT 44 has discontinued its weekday morning newscast. However, we later learned that it just ended up being a simulcast of KNVA 54 (CW) in Austin’s two-hour extension of KXAN 36 (NBC)’s weekday morning news, which was discontinued, hence the reason why FOX 44 Capital News (the branding for the simulcast) no longer airs either. It now just leaves the station with weeknight half-hour news at 5:30 and a nightly hour-long newscast at 9:00 p.m., both of which are the ONLY local newscasts on at that time in the market (the combined Central Texas and Brazos Valley market).

We have another report involving two other markets so stay tuned to the blog for more.

  1. NO chance KWKT will go in-house for news. Take my advice, KWKT is set to become a has-been in the local news world. Wonder what that will mean for their FOX affiliation?
