KOSA will discontinue its 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. news on August 28th.

KOSA-TV 7 / Odessa – Midland, TX (“CBS 7”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: KOSA will make its first moves under its new ownership with Gray Television. Unfortunately, those moves will be a discontinuation of some newscasts.

On Friday August 28th, 2015, KOSA 7 will air its weekday half-hour 4:00 p.m. newscast (CBS 7 News – Front Page at 4:00) and its weeknight half-hour 9:00 p.m. newscast for KOSA-DT 7.2, the My Network TV affiliate (My 16 – My News 16 at 9:00) for the very last time. Afterwards, the 4:00 p.m. timeslot will be replaced with an episode of Family Feud with Steve Harvey while the 9:00 p.m. timeslot on KOSA-DT 7.2 will be replaced by an episode of the sitcom Mike and Molly, starring Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell.

Also after this, KWES 9/KWAB 4 (NBC) will be home to the ONLY weekday 4:00 p.m. newscast in West Texas (Midland – Odessa), however KOSA 7 will continue to start its early-evening news coverage at 4:30 p.m. with CBS 7 News – Closer Look, which will still be home to the area’s ONLY weekday newscast at 4:30 p.m. And also after this, there will be NO primetime newscast at 9:00 p.m. in the area, since KMID 2 (ABC) doesn’t do one for sister station, KPEJ 24 (FOX) while KWES 9/KWAB 4 doesn’t do one either for its digital subchannel KWES 9.2/KWAB 4.2 (The CW).

So, this is not good news for a station that is supposed to keep Your Eye on West Texas.
